Constipation Causes Symptoms And Treatment
A condition in which
bowel's evacuations are irregular or in which faeces (stool) is thick hard and
small. falls down in round balls but its passage is difficult painful and time
consuming, moreover during constipation urging of stool becomes irregular or
remains absent for day together. It varies considerably from person to person.
CAUSES
Constipation maybe
due to intestinal disease of insufficient food or fluid intake. Sluggish or
disordered action of the bowels, and nerve supply of muscular system to empty
the bowels or rectum In person having sedentary habit of sitting or having long
frequent journeys by car-bus or by train use to suffer with a constipation-
called traveller's constipation.
Acute constipation develops
when a man takes allopathic drugs as pain killer in some colic or tooth ache,
as sedatives to induce sleep or when he takes drugs in fever- in such cases
there is no proper or normal evacuation from the bowels in time.
Acute constipation
also takes place after sudden obstruction or paralysis of the gut (intestine)
or due to the weakness in the pushing power of the gut.

Habitual: due to regular habit of eating and sitting, for example in bottle fed
infants and tailors with sedentary habit of sitting.

abuse of cathartics (i.e. , purgatives luxatives). Agar, Aloe, Ant-c, Bry,

2. Aescul.H. 30, 200
In constipation with ineffectual or constant urging of
stool- which may be dry hard, large, difficult, dark brown with burning brat
and constriction in rectum. Anus feels as if full of small sticks or it
prolapses during great straining and constipation. Constipation due to
haemorrhoids or haemorrhoid due to constipation with pain in the lower abdomen,
severe pain in the back-worse by motion, stooping, constipation.
3. Alfalfa-Q +
Aletris-Q (1:1)
5-10 drops dose be used in chronic constipation - when the
faeces are large thick and painful while passing. It is equally good for men
and women patients.
4. Aloe-30, 200
In constipation of old people with constant urging of stoolbut
everytime passes a small stool. Constipation due to haemorrhoids, with dropping
of blood. Constipation of the people with sedentary habit of sitting or who
live to eat. Constipation with heaviness and pressure in rectum- with urging as
if diarrhoea would ensue but only hot flatus passessometimes scanty stool
passes during flatus which is hard and is wrapped with transparent mucus.
Patient is worse in summer, by warmth and is better in cold air.
5. Alstonia-Q +
Aletris-Q + Alfalfa-Q (1:1:1)
5-10 drops just before meals in chronic constipation - with
large hard round like halls, painful and difficult stools. Faeces loaded up in
the rectum or bowels cl, , (1 tie to 1 hell- paretic conditions. It is suitable
for those patient who ice, tired all the time, have anaemia with sinking
feeling, in stomach.
6. Alumina-30, 200
In constipation of bottle fed infants- children or in
constipation due to torpor (sluggishness or diminished action) of the rectum.
There is no urging, no desire to stool for days together- till there is large
accumulation of faeces in the rectum. Constipation of old people with dryness
of intestines- stool dry difficult scanty knotty-round balls, like sheep dung.
But sometimes, stool is thick, hard and long with great pain while passing- or
even soft stool passes after great straining- perspiration breaks out during
stooling with nausea, fainting chilliness and tremulous weakness of lower legs.
Constipation of old men and pregnant women due to inactivity of the bowels-
worse in warm weather and by travelling.
7. Ambra-G. 30, 200
In constipation of old women with vertigo, weakness or
constipation of women during lying- in bed period- with sensation of coldness
in abdomen. Constipation of old people with frequent ineffectual urging pain in
small of back- and numbness of hands and feet. Patients feels better in cool
open air.
8. Antimonium Crud,

In constipation of old people, in children having white
stool, or in constipation alternating diarrhoea. Stool is very hardcauses
colicky pain in the abdomen. Constipation of women during lying in bed period
or in general cases of constipation with loss of appetite, tongue heavily
coated white, dizziness, eructations tasting of food eaten, nausea and
vomiting. Patient is worse in heat of the sun.
9 Baryta Carb. 30,
200
In obstinate constipation of old people with hard lumpy
scanty constipated stool- which is expelled with difficulty constipation with
high blood pressure.
10. Byonia-30
In chronic constipation with hard long dark
brown or blackstool as if burnt. Constipation with unsatisfactory stool after
much straining, rush of blood to the head- causing headache or bleeding of
nose. Constipation due to inactivity of the intestines, disordered gastric or
hepatic functions. Stool too large and dry due to dryness of intestines.
Constipation during hot weather, fever and lying in bed period- with burning
sensation and proplapsus of anus. There is great dryness of mouth- great thirst
for large quantity of water, tongue coated white, headache- with nausea due to
constipation- prefers cool surroundings.
10 drops dose of
cascara sag. Q after meals and breakfast, is a tonic to remove constipation and
dyspepsia and improves the pushing power of the intestines.
12. Chelidonium-30
In constipation with burning cutting constricting pains in
anus, itching in anus with stool like sheep dung, pain over the liver and
caecal regions, distension of abdomen with gurgling of wind in the intestines.
Pale yellow face, and eyes, flabby tongue, reddish or dark yellow urine dull
And constant pain under lower inner angle of right shoulder blade. Vertigo,
difficult breathing after meals and constipation alternating diarrhoea etc. are
the symptoms of this remedy.
13. Collinsonia-30
Constipation during pregnancy or due to congestive sluggish
action and absence of pushing power of bowels. Obstinate constipation with
haemorrhoids, pain in rectum-anus- as if anus is full of sticks- after passing
of hard stool- with great soreness, tenderness and prolapsus of anus.
14. Graphites-30
Constipation with weak digestion, dryness of intestines, no
urging or desire for stool, fissures of anus. Stool knotty like round balls
united with mucus threads. Stitching tearing and soreness in anus after or
during stooling and remains for hour together, constipation after eating meat,
dry fruit and pulses.
15. Hydrastis-Q, IX,
30, 200
No desire or urging of stool during constipation. Only
flatus passes during stooling. Pain in rectum after stool. Constipation with colicky
pain, sensation of goneness, faintness and heat in stomach or intestines,
Atonic- weak digestion or digestion is not in tone with headache, constipation
caused by sluggish action of bowels, by sendentary habits of sitting or from
abuse of cathartics (laxative drungs).
16. Lycopodium-30,

Constipation in old people, people of higher classeswho take
special fried or seasoned food and suffer from constipation due to sluggish and
delayed excretion of faeces from bowelsand always have plethoric abdomen i.e. ,
fulness or overloading of abdomen with excessive formation of wind. Patient is
having poor digestion, with sensation as if lower bowels were loaded with
faeces. Stool hard scanty and passes with difficulty- with sensation as if much
of the faeces remained behind in the rectum. Rumbling of much flatus in the
left hypochondrium- (upper abdomen left side). Patient is always worse from 4
to 8 P.M. and from cold food, cabbage,
vegetables, beans, farinaceous food, onions, and oysters. He is better from cold
air, by eating hot meals, likes more sweets and he is having dry thin withered
constitution which is full of gas.
17. Magnesia - mur,
30, 200
Constipation due to chronic liver affection with tenderness
soreness in the liver region. Constipation of infants during dentition. Stool
knotty like sheep dung, obstruction of bowels from hard faeces. Stool passes
after every second day. Stool is so dry that it crumbles When it passes through
the anus. Passage is difficult painful with pricking pain in anus due to
painful smarting haemorrhoids. Must use pressure over abdominal muscles to
enable him to urinate and evacuate the bowels. Abdomen tender sore worse after
eating- better motion and in open air.
18. Natrum mur-30,

In obstinate constipation with difficult expulsion of
faeces- fissuring the anus. Stool, irregular dry hard, on alternate days. Anus
contracted or torn with little bleeding, great soreness of anus after stool,
constipation from inactivity of rectum, spasm of anus, dryness of mucous membrane
of intestine. Progressive emaciation or loosing of flesh even after eating
well. Patient is irritable, weepy, hates fuss, craves salts, avoids fats and
bread.
19. Nitric acid-30,

In obstinate constipation, and fissure of anus with bleeding
or intense burning. Sharp stitching, long lasting pain in anus after every
stool. Stool is very hard large or knotty. Constipation of children women and
old men with mouth affection. Here Sul = 200 be given to complete the cure.
20. Nux-Vomica-30,
200
In chronic constipation of the persons who have sedentary
habits i.e. sitting for long time in
daily works or who have much, mental works, mental strains, anxiety and care of
their health, bussiness or due to over study. Such persons are the clerks,
accountants, tailors, book winders, students etc. Constipation with constant
urging to stool, evacuation is incomplete and unsatisfactory with ineffectual
urging of stool. Constipation with large hard stool due to accumulation of
faeces in the rectum whenever there is narrowness of the anus. Constipation
alternating diarrhoea due to gastric derangements, constipation with colic. Nux
is hypersensitive, thin quick active studious (thoughtful) nervous, irritable,
desires stimulents and wine in excess.
21. Nux. Vomica-30, sulphure-30
Nux. Vomica-30 after meals sulphure-30 in the morning cured
90% cases of the constipation, may be repeated for one month or more.
22. Opium-30, 200
In chronic constipation, or constipation of long standing
cases- i.e. for the last so many months
or years- with no urging of stool for days together due to loss of pushing
power of the intestines or due to weakness of rectum, paresis (partial
paralysis) of the intestines. Pusing power of the intestine is entirely
suspended. Stool is evacuated after 3-6 days and is dry, hard- in the form of
round balls- Inveterate- ie. uncurable chronic constipation blocking the colon
with faeces and flatus that cuase pressure upward against the chest. Patient
wants to sleep but cannot sleep - as he hears noises of flies, distant clocks
when other do not hear. Bed feels hot with hot sweat, rush of blood to the
head. Constipation with ovaritis, from abuse of opium, or alcohols, it suits
much to corpulent (fat) women and children.
23. Platina-30, 200
Torpor (dulness or inactiveness) of rectum, whole intestinal
canal, constipation with frequent urging, with great chilliness and weakness in
abdomen after stooling. Stool sticks to the anus like soft clay. Constipation
of the travellers with retarded scanty stool- and is evacuated with great
straining and difficulty.
24. Plumbum met. 30
In obstinate constipation with colic, faeces composed and
packed together like hard round balls of sheep dung. There is constriction and
drawing up of the anus, drawing in of the abdomen, at the umbilicus- (naval
region) as if abdomen is nearly touching the spine, tympanitic colon with
colicky pains, spasm of the anus causes obstruction in the evacuation of the
stool. Pain in limbs with cardiac weakness. scanty urine drop by drop.
25. Senna - IX, 30,
200
It is a tonic to cure the deranged digestive system with
constipation, colic and flatulence. Stool hard and dark with loss of appetite,
coated tongue- bad taste, great prostration weakness during constipation. Liver
enlarged, tender and sore with painful urination, burning in rectum, ebullition
(boiling) of blood at night. Senna leaves be soaked in one cup of water whole
night and may be drunk after sieving it with fine cloth.
26. Staphysagria-Q,
30, 200
Constipation and retarding of stool on account of lack of
pushing power of the intestines, stool-hard, scanty, with cutting burning pains
in anus. First stool hard, then soft stool. ( 2 drops dose of staph-Q. Morning
and evening).
27. Sulphure-30, 200
Be used in common causes of constipation,
habitual constipation, constipation in haemorrhoidal and hypochondriac people,
(people having excessive anxiety about their health. Commonly seen when such
persons are in depressive and anxiety states). Complaining or dull feeling in
head, heaviness on top of the head, weak hungry sensation in stomach, about
noon, burning of soles at night, burning heat at the vertex. Hard,
insufficient, stool with fulness, heat and itching at anus. Stool in round
balls like sheep dung, stool hard and black, as if burnt (Bry), so painful that
patient stops straining. Constipation of infants, constipation alternating
diarrhoea. Sul. is a common-complementary remedy and completes the cure when
treatment started with other indicated remedy.constipation with scanty stool.
