Cholesterol is a fat like matter which is present in the blood, in the brain, nerves, liver and in the bile. It is mostly present in the nervous tissues i.e. , brain, spinal cord and in the nerves. It is not easily soluble and may crystallize in the gall bladder and along inner arterial walls. The normal quantity of cholesterol present in the body is 140-215 mg per 100 ml. of blood.

An excess of cholesterol in the blood may deposit over skin-causing thickened elevated bright whitened spots over skin-especially appear over lips, eye-lids, neck, over and under ears or over limbs. Its deposition may also cause the formation of gall stones and atheroma. Cholesterol is the major constituent of gall stones. All the homoeo remedies which cure gall stones and atheroma-work as preventives of cholesterol in the blood.
